What LG Covers on Compressors and Direct Drive Motors
LG's U.S. limited warranty for refrigerators splits the appliance into tiers. Internal parts get one year. The sealed system (condenser, dryer, connecting tube and evaporator) and the compressor get five years of parts and labor. Linear and inverter compressors then get a second stretch: parts only in years six through ten, with labor billed to you.
Front-load washers follow the same logic. LG's washer warranty gives the whole machine one year of parts and labor, the direct drive motor (stator or rotor) ten years of parts only, and the stainless steel drum three years of parts only.
Why this changes the first call
A fridge that runs but won't get cold can have many causes, from a blocked vent to a failed fan motor. Only a diagnosis tells you whether the compressor is the part that failed. If it is, and the fridge is under ten years old, LG may be paying for the compressor itself.
Call LG at 1-800-243-0000 or start a claim on LG's warranty support page before booking anyone else. A covered repair through LG's own service arrangements costs you nothing, while an outside company charges for the same work. LG asks for proof of the original retail purchase showing the model and date. Without it, the warranty clock starts 90 days after the manufacture date.

LG Washer Codes on Direct Drive Models
Two of these codes relate directly to the motor LG warrants for ten years. LE means the motor is overloaded and locked, and CE means over-current in the motor's electrical circuit. Because LE describes an overloaded motor, take some clothes out, restart, and see whether the code clears before you assume the motor itself has failed.
For UE, LG's advice is to check the washer is level, redistribute the clothes by hand, add items to a small load, and try a cycle with more water or a lower spin speed. If an empty rinse and spin still stops with UE, LG says to book a repair.
OE and IE often start with plumbing rather than parts. LG names a kinked drain hose or a clogged drain pump filter as causes of OE. IE means water isn't reaching the washer in the amount it needs, so check that both taps are open. If the filter is clean and the hoses are clear, the washer repair page goes through the pump and valve faults that come next.
The door codes split three ways, which helps a technician before they arrive. dE1 means the door is open and not locked, while dE2 means it's closed but won't lock. Telling the repair company which one you see saves a step.

LG also points out that an OE code on the first cycle after installation indicates an installation issue with the drain hose rather than a failed part. Where LG Prints the Model and Serial Number
- Refrigerators: inside the fresh food section on the right side of the liner on most models, and on the left side of the liner on newer ones.
- Front-load washers: a silver label on the front panel behind the door. Open the door and look around the opening to the drum.
- Top-load washers: on the back toward the top, under the lid toward the bottom right, or on the left side panel at the top right corner.
- Dishwashers: on the right side of the door when it is open.
- Ranges: the left side of the door or drawer frame, behind the oven panel headboard, in the frame of the bottom drawer, or beneath the upper lip of the top oven.
- Reading it: model numbers start with a letter. Serial numbers start with three digits that give the year and month of manufacture.
Repair or replace
When an LG Repair Is Worth Paying For
Start with the serial number. LG says its first digit indicates the year of manufacture and the next two give the month, so you can date the appliance quickly. Then line it up against LG's tiers. An LG fridge in year eight with a failed linear or inverter compressor still has the compressor part covered. That can make a repair look far better next to the sticker price of a new one.
A washer that throws LE or CE is the same story with the direct drive motor. If the stator or rotor has failed inside ten years, LG covers the part and you pay for the labor. A control board or drain pump that fails after the first year falls outside both longer tiers.
Your protections on a paid repair
The state agency that regulates appliance repair dealers, the Bureau of Household Goods and Services, is based in Sacramento. Under Business and Professions Code section 9844, a repair dealer owes you a written estimate for parts and labor before any work, and needs your consent before charging more.

Is the LG linear compressor covered for 10 years?
Partly. LG's refrigerator warranty covers the compressor for parts and labor for five years. For a linear or inverter compressor, LG then covers the part only in years six through ten, and you pay the labor. The rest of the refrigerator has one year of parts and labor. Check the warranty sheet for your exact model, since LG publishes more than one version.
Does OE mean the same thing on an LG washer and an LG dishwasher?
Close to it. On an LG washer, OE means the water cannot drain. On an LG dishwasher, LG says OE points to a drain problem, most often a food clog or an installation issue such as a kinked, too-high or too-long drain hose. On a dishwasher connected to a brand-new garbage disposal, LG notes the disposal's drain knockout plug may still be in place.
My LG washer keeps showing UE. What should I try?
