Check the freezer temperature
Set it to 0°F. GE recommends 37°F for the fresh-food side, and notes that a freezer at least three-quarters full holds a steadier temperature for ice making.

Run the test cycle
On Samsung models, lift out the bucket and hold the Test button until the unit chimes, which can take up to 10 seconds. One chime means it passed. Several chimes mean it needs service.

Power cycle if nothing happens
No chime and no movement? Unplug the fridge or switch off its breaker for two minutes, then try the test again.

Check the water
Samsung's quick test for dispenser models: 6 ounces into a cup in under 10 seconds. If it is slower, pull the filter out and try again.

Wait it out
Samsung says ice should start within 3 hours, but full production can take a whole day. Give it that full day before deciding the reset didn't work.
- Don't press Test over and over once the tray has water or ice in it. Samsung warns it can overflow or jam.
- Don't chip ice out of the mold with a knife or heat the unit with a hair dryer.

Why Samsung French-Door Ice Makers Freeze Up
Samsung puts the ice maker in the fresh-food compartment on many of its French-door refrigerators. That saves freezer space, but it means the ice maker is a small freezer sitting inside a compartment kept well above freezing, and it depends on seals and cold-air ducts to stay separate. When warm, humid air gets in, frost forms. When frost builds on the ice maker and chute, cubes stick, the bucket jams, and eventually the whole assembly can disappear under a sheet of ice.
Samsung's own support pages describe each stage. A gap between the ice bucket and the chute lets fresh-food air in and causes frost, along with wet or slushy ice. A block of ice in the bin that returns after you clear it means service. An ice maker frozen over with a sheet of ice should not be defrosted by the owner, because that can damage it; Samsung's instruction is to request service.
The firmware fix for connected models
For Family Hub and other models that connect to the SmartThings app, Samsung has released a firmware update that it says can help prevent and possibly resolve the freezing. The update installs itself once the fridge is connected, and Samsung recommends leaving it connected. If you own one of these models, connect it before booking a repair.

An ice maker fault almost never justifies a new refrigerator. The repair itself has changed, though. When No Ice Means the Refrigerator Has a Problem
Samsung says its freezers need to hold 0°F or colder to produce ice, and GE says the ice maker's mold has to reach 16°F before a cycle even starts. So a freezer that has drifted up to 10°F or 15°F still keeps ice cream fairly firm but makes ice slowly or not at all.
