How Our Appliance Repair Referral Works
Here's what happens when you call, who you end up talking to, how this site gets paid, and what to check before a technician visits.
Sacramento Appliance Care is a referral service for appliance repair in the Sacramento and Roseville area. We don't repair appliances and we don't employ technicians. When you call, you're connected with an independent local appliance repair company that covers your ZIP code, and that company quotes, schedules and performs the repair.
Calling costs you nothing. Participating repair companies pay us for the calls we send them. You pay only the company you choose to hire, directly, for the work it does.
The call, step by step
The number on this site is a routing number. It works out which repair company should get your call based on where you are and what needs fixing, then puts you through.
Most calls take a couple of minutes. You can hang up at any point, and nothing is booked unless you and the repair company agree on a time.
-
You dial the number on the page
You may be asked for your ZIP code or the type of appliance so the call reaches the right company.
-
A local repair company answers
The person you speak with works for that company, not for us. They can tell you their service call fee, when they can come and which brands they handle.
-
You decide
If the time and fees suit you, book the visit with them. If not, you're free to hang up and look elsewhere.
-
The company does the job
Diagnosis, written estimate, repair, invoice and any guarantee all come from the repair company.
What we do, and what we don't
We do
- Publish free information about common appliance problems, costs and your rights under California repair law.
- Route your call to a repair company that serves your ZIP code and works on your type of appliance.
- Tell you plainly when your ZIP code isn't covered.
- Answer questions about this website at help@sacramentoappliancecare.com.
We don't
- Send technicians, diagnose appliances or perform repairs.
- Set prices, collect payment for repairs or hold any repair warranty.
- Present a repair company's license or registration as our own.
- Guarantee that a company will be available at a particular time.
How this site is paid
Repair companies pay a fee when a call from this site reaches them. That's the whole business model. Nothing about it is billed to you by us.
Because we're paid per call, there's an obvious incentive to send as many calls as possible. We'd rather send you to the right company once. That's why coverage is limited to ZIP codes where participating companies actually work, and why the pages on this site tell you when a repair probably isn't worth paying for.
Checking a repair company yourself
California requires anyone who repairs major home appliances for pay to register with the Bureau of Household Goods and Services, part of the Department of Consumer Affairs (Business and Professions Code 9840). Licensed contractors working within their license are an exception.
It takes a minute to check. Ask the company for its registration number on the phone, then search it on the BHGS license lookup. The number must also appear on your invoice (16 CCR 2725).
- Ask for the service call and diagnostic fee before the visit. The dealer has to quote it (16 CCR 2752).
- Get a written estimate before approving a repair (Bus. & Prof. Code 9844).
- Ask what the repair guarantee covers and who stands behind it.
- Keep the itemized invoice and ask for your old parts back.
If something goes wrong
Start with the repair company. It did the work and it holds any guarantee. If that doesn't resolve it, the Bureau of Household Goods and Services takes complaints about registered repair dealers through its complaint page.
Please tell us too, at help@sacramentoappliancecare.com. We can't settle a dispute over a repair, but we want to know when a call we sent led to a bad experience.
