So a home's water can swing from soft to hard depending on how much well water is in the mix that week.
Hard water leaves scale in dishwashers, on washer inlet screens and around heating elements. Soft water calls for less detergent. GE Appliances puts it plainly: hard water needs more detergent, soft water needs less. If you're on the district, pick a middle dose, use rinse aid, and adjust if you see chalky spots (too little) or cloudy etching (too much). SMUD Rebates for Citrus Heights Households
